Located in the vibrant suburb of Moorebank, Kayal Foods offers a taste of authentic Kerala cuisine that evokes a sense of home for many. Patrons have praised its diverse menu, particularly the Thattukada Chicken Fry and Crab Roast, although opinions on these dishes are mixed. While some find the chicken fry slightly below average, others rave about the rich flavors of the crab curry, noting it as a highlight of their dining experience.

Irene Joshy's review captures the essence of Kayal’s culinary charm, emphasizing the traditional preparation of dishes like Rabbit Fry paired with a refreshing coconut toddy served in earthen pots. This aligns perfectly with the restaurant's ethos of offering home-style cooking enriched with classic Kerala spices, which many patrons find irresistible.

Despite some criticisms regarding specific dishes and service, such as Arun Mani's feedback on the need for improvement, the overall atmosphere is well-received. Comfortable seating and a warm ambiance create an inviting space for food enthusiasts. In summary, Kayal Foods has emerged as a noteworthy destination for those seeking a genuine Kerala dining experience, reaffirming its status as a beloved spot worth the visit.

Review highlights

Based on 866 reviews

Reviews for Kayal Foods highlight its authentic Kerala flavors, particularly praised for traditional dishes like crab curry and buffalo roast. Customers appreciate the genuine taste and generous portions, alongside a comfortable dining atmosphere. However, feedback indicates some inconsistency in food quality, with a few dishes falling below expectations. The Indian toddy receives mixed reactions, suggesting room for improvement. Service is noted as an area needing enhancement to match the overall experience. While a bit removed from central locations, Kayal Foods is regarded as a worthwhile destination for those seeking classic Kerala cuisine with familiar spices and traditional presentation.

The first place in australia - melbourne and sydney - where I have managed to get the authentic taste of home. The coconut toddy in a traditional earthen pot is a great wash down for the crab curry, the shell fish and rabbit fry . Classic Kerala taste but with spice sensibilities that makes it a delectable experience for everyone. It is a little far from the city but oh totally worth the drive . I am Making Kayal my monthly ritual .

Food is average. Don't go there for Indian toddy, felt like drinking sugar syrup(imported from Sreelanka). Good quantity food. Kakkayirachi, chattichoru & Buffalo roast are good. Service can be improved. Restaurant atmosphere is really good. Comfortable chair & table.
